Village halls, community hubs, places of worship and charity premises — usually run by volunteers, often in older or unconventional buildings, and always on a tight budget.
Community buildings are frequently the most under-resourced premises we assess, and the responsible person is often a volunteer trustee who did not realise the duty had landed on them. The buildings themselves are rarely straightforward: modular construction, timber frame, church halls, converted schools, extensions added over decades with no consistent fire strategy.
The assessment needs to be proportionate. Recommending a specification the organisation cannot possibly fund achieves nothing. We prioritise ruthlessly, separate the genuinely urgent from the desirable, and give trustees something they can take to a funding application or a committee meeting and actually act on.
